2014-2015
Since the first release in 2001, games in the Arma series featured an in-game 2D editor. But while the games improved over time and new features and assets were added, the editor remained unchanged. What was revolutionary at the turn of the century became a problem that drags you down.
Already when developing Zeus, I knew that the editor will come next. It was extremely important to plan everything ahead – I wanted the editor itself to be moddable, and every piece of configuration had to be as tweakable as possible. Analysis took several months, but once the actual development started, it was quite a straightforward process.
It indeed turned out to be a game changer. Apex campaign already benefited from it massively, but it was Arma 3 Laws of War campaign which would not be possible without this advanced tool.
